It’s a good thing there isn’t more anime out there promoting gambling because of how horrible it actually is and how it has ruined and still ruin peoples lives. On the other hand, it sucks there isn’t more gambling anime out there because they’re freaking cool and really fun to see. So don’t gamble kids and here you have a list of all the best animes out there showing you how not to spend your (or someone else’s) money. There isn’t many shows in this genre so only a few is worth watching.
1. Death Parade
Really awesome anime even if it actually doesn’t put as much focus on the gambling compared to the rest or at least so in a different way. I remember when first watching it and how I really enjoyed it and having that banger opening to start things off everytime made it even better. It’s more centered around the mental aspect of how people would react if they found themselves with no memories of how they got here and then have to do some gamble with the uncertainty of what might happen next. Really cool, fun and overall great.
2. No Game No Life
Really solid show. Some interesting games as well as cool and complex strategies to create a really good experience. I guess it’s just a really good show that manages to create a really dynamic and vibrant world with some intense and exciting games. If you want some intense gambling action where you won’t be able to expect the next thing that is gonna happen then I’m sure you’ll be glad to watch this. I’m not sure what else to say other than it’s good.
3. Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor
A show that really takes all the aspects of what it’s like to be a gambler. Take some dude and put him into debt and then see him do all kinds of cool and insane gambling shenanigans as he tries to wiggle his way out of his debt. It’s just an amazing anime that manages to put you on the edge of your seat as you wait to see what might happen next. I was very found of watching it and found it to keep being inventive and nuanced throughout even if the second season in my opinion was a little lackluster at some points but still a really good show.
4. One Outs
It’s a great show but the biggest problem with it is how much it just stops right in the middle of the story which is a great shame. To take something that at first glance doesn’t have a strong connection to gambling and then turn this idea upside down as you see the main protagonist absolutely play with people is just a blast to see. It does a great job of portraying people’s train of thought and how easy it can be to manipulate it or simply figure out what the other person is gonna do and counteract it. Really cool and fun but it’s a shame it ends so suddenly.
Not too bad but it does feel a little lackluster at times compared to other anime. My biggest problem is that the stakes don’t feel that impactful or important at times even if they are and that the gamble doesn’t carry that weight that makes it interesting and that puts you on the edge of your seat. It does have some cool strategies for some of the games and some unique games as well but it just doesn’t hold up to other anime for me in that regard with how creative and blown away I’ve been in the past. It’s not bad but it’s just not that spectacular in my opinion.
6. Touhai Densetsu Akagi: Yami ni Maiorita Tensai
Really amazing show in terms of showing the impact of what’s at stake as well as creating a cool and interesting protagonist to carry the show. It’s only about mahjong and it can for sure get boring for people especially if you can’t figure out how the game works which might take some episodes to get an idea of. I’ll happily admit that I didn’t understand the game completely after watching it to the end and I don’t know if it would help knowing the game or not when going into this anime. But other than that it does stop at a funny place and is a little old but still really good and worth a watch.
I thought I would just slam down some alternatives depending on a few criterias to what might be interesting to watch or similar to watching the shows above.
Clever: Code geass, Death note, Steins;Gate, Jojo, The Promised Neverland
Thrilling: Attack on Titan, Parasyte, Any good sports anime, Erased, Re:Zero, Mirai Nikki
