Best Sport Anime

1. Haikyuu!!

just absolutely awesome anime. It’s tough to know beforehand how an anime is gonna turn out and how good it’s gonna be. But trust me when I say this, it doesn’t matter how good you think this is, you are gonna be baffled as your expectations get blown out of the water. The animations are top notch making you crave for more after each episode. The story and characters are gonna suck you in so much that before you realise it you have watched a whole season in the blink of an eye. This is obviously quite a description that is impossible to live up to and that’s not the intention. The intention is to tell that it’s a wonderful show about some volleyball players and it’s definitely worth a watch

2. Hajime no Ippo

If you are thinking about whether or not you should watch hajime no ippo then go right ahead and give it a shot. It has some old animation which might discourage some people at first but try and put that to the side as it really isn’t that bad. I personally think it’s a very shallow way to look at it and judge it before taking a look at what it truly has to offer. And what it offers is an absolute banger of an anime. Watching ippo grow and his journey in the professional boxing scene is just freaking cool and offers some of the best action scenes you can find out there. fun, cool and awesome

3. Megalo Box

I fell in love with the artstyle and characters before even starting the first episode but I kinda got a little disappointed as the story progressed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a really cool anime but I got a little put off by the pacing. It just felt rushed and unnatural throughout a lot of the show because of how the story was told. It’s a cool story and it has some great characters. still, it felt like a lot of it could be spanned out a bit more before moving on to the next thing. Nonetheless what a cool idea to have boxing gear to power up your punches with great risks and awesome fight scenes to make for an interesting watch.

4. Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru

A well told story with many different personas that all end up running together as one big team. It’s very often that you find a sports anime that is about teamwork that puts focus on the team as well as the individual character and that’s not something you’ll think to find in a show about running. Or maybe you do I don’t know, but it actually is about teamwork in this one. It’s basically just a great show about differences and the motivation and dedication to support each other and fight for a common goal whether it be more for one self or those around you. Actually pretty good

5. Kuroko no Basket

If you want a lot of great sports anime then treat yourself to some kuroko no basket. It takes a great twist on the sport by taking it’s different tactical and technical aspects and amplifying them to make it more epic and cool. It’s not like they are superheroes or something unrealistic, they just make their different traits over the top enough to make it believable but still unrealistically cool. It also does a great job of switching between character specific moments and showing off teamwork. But I will point out that the biggest focus is on the individual plays by far even though it does a good job of switching between the two. Really intense and cool.

6. Ping Pong the Animation

somewhat weird and unique in its art style and story, but also with the feeling it gives you when watching it. I’m not sure how to describe it or describe what makes it so special. But I personally think it lies in how it keeps the viewers attention and keeps them entertained and interested throughout the show. It’s got cool animations and a cool plot build up by some interesting characters to make for good story

7. Chihayafuru

Most sports anime out there is about very popular sports but you are most likely not an expert on all of them which makes them interesting and fun to watch as you learn more about the sport. But it is equally fun to learn about something you’ve never heard of before and see this new world and learn about it. Chihayafuru is this sport that focuses on speed, precision and focus as you try to blast cards off the ground as fast as you can. It’s a great anime and I can really recommend it for its production quality and flow throughout the anime. It has some great moments and does a great job of captivating you during the games that are played

8. 3-gatsu no lion

This is a quite special one as it definitely isn’t centered around fast passing or intricate strategies but much more around the personal aspects of our main protagonists and how his life is centered around the game of shogi. It’s a really good anime and does an amazing job of capturing very hard emotions and puts some interesting topics in focus that are very interesting. It’s definitely a bit more towards slice of life/Drama that most sports anime but it’s still a great anime and a good watch

9. Ahiru no Sora

Really cool new basketball anime airing right now. It is as many other animes about an underdog team that has to fight their way to the top and become great teammates. The biggest takeaway I have is the characters are well made and they do a good job of portraying the players’ mindset and how their inner monolog is playing out through the game. It’s a nice basketball anime and I can definitely recommend it.

10. Yuri!!! on Ice

A very popular opening song that is essentially one of the most played opening songs on karaoke as far as I know. But let’s talk about the show. Great animations and some decent stories to make a good watch as you follow the journey of our main ice skating protagonist. It’s a good sports anime and I don’t have anything against it but I did feel like it lost some “umf” towards the end in terms of story. it compensated for it in other ways but it was good overall.

11. Free!

absolutely amazing quality water. I can honestly say that you won’t find much better elsewhere. I personally ended up going to the local swimming pool after watching this because it looked so bewitching and enticing. I don’t think it’s an amazing anime or that great overall but I did enjoy watching it. I just wasn’t captivated by each of the characters’ drives or goals. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve done a great job of showing how passionate each of them are and such but it just didn’t click for me as much in terms of enjoyment.

12. all out

honestly not that bad but it just falls short here and there. There are so many other good shows out there so if everything isn’t top tier then it won’t hold up. The animation and action is pretty good but I felt like it needed some more dynamic and longer action sequences. It was mostly the very impactful and instantaneous moments that I took away from the show rather than what overall happened. I honestly can’t remember much of the overall story which might show a little bit of how it doesn’t set a big footprint in your memories. It’s definitely alright but not amazing
